Electrical kits provide a pressure sensor to detect patient breathing, a motor controller to control the gripper, and a processor to control the sequence. It also includes a simple user interface composed of 4 knobs, a couple of buttons, a couple switches, and a display. We also include a couple of ways to connect to a variety of styles of mechanical gear.
The software that drives the electrical system is open source. It is upgradeable via a micro-usb port. It will evolve quickly once the initial design from MIT is released.
Mechanical kits are made by companies with skills in sheet metal, CNC, etc. We even have people wanting to make the chassis out of hard wood.

HOW CAN YOU HELP?
We're starting by building kits, and trying to engage folks who can work with respiratory therapists to bring this to patients. We specifically want find 10+ respiratory therapists to join us.
In the US, EU and other nations where healthcare is accessible, we'll do ok. There are so many other people who just don't have access to ventilators or the tools they need to survive. Let's give them a fighting chance.
There are alot of talented folks who are isolated at home. Can you help us with parts, documentation, translation, sourcing AMBU bags and accessories, identify challenges in other countries, logistics, etc? There are 1/2 dozen us now. We have a clear mission. Hit us up. Don't wait.
